No Landline? No Problem.

Can I use a medical alarm without phone service? We get this question a lot. In answer to this question, Prime Medical Alert offers several options for those who have no home or landline telephone connection. Our cellular medical alert option, known as the NextAlert, is a completely wireless device. Users speak directly through the medical alert device rather than through a base station. It works wherever there is cellular service throughout the United States. This means the user can be driving, going to the supermarket, outside their house on a walk, etc. Our representatives can verify that your specific area has the appropriate coverage.

The NextAlert is a cellular device that contacts our central EMTs and has built-in location-finding technology. Once the EMTs receive a call, they first attempt to speak with the client. If no communication is made, they use the location technology and dispatch first responders.

Additionally, our other medical alert systems can be easily retrofitted to work without a phone line. If you don’t have a phone line and would like more information, feel free to request a brochure or call us 24/7.

Does it Work With VOIP/Cable Phone Service?

Most people who have home landline phone lines have them through their cable or cellular providers like Comcast or Verizon. These are not standard POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) but rather VoIP. Since they operate a little differently than the standard phone lines, there can be issues with connectivity.

If you are unsure, simply mention your phone service provider to a representative, and they can provide information on compatibility. Prime Medical Alert does have devices for all phone providers as well as devices that work without a phone line.

Listed on the right is a brief list of compatible service providers. If your phone service is on the list of compatible service providers, there is no need to notify our representatives.

If your phone service is not listed, ask one of our agents, and they can easily verify that it works as is. As said above, a home phone line is not a requirement, and if you do not have one, just let us know, and our agents will make sure the medical alert system is configured properly.
